The Powder Room (2011)
Due to Parsons’ Fine Arts department’s poor conditions, a concern for self hygiene came to my mind. The women’s bathroom: an absolutely unpleasant facility.
Concerned with hygiene regarding Parsons Fine Arts undergrads, The Powder Room creates a space of comfort and pamper for the ladies. Again involving productivity and a living space, school (for some) becomes the second place to inhabit after home, for long days are spent in this establishment. Therefore, decent conditions should be provided.
As a performance, I decided to re-do the women’s bathroom on the 4th floor, in order to give the ladies a little time for themselves. Providing products among other things, disposable decorations were put up to set a more comforting ambiance.

The Napping Station (2011)
Sleep deprivation causes major flaws in the functionality of ones daily activities. Getting an average of 5 hours a night decreases our productivity and we become dysfunctional and idle. We carry ourselves around believing the durable myth: sleeping one hour less will give us one more hour of productivity. Au contraire. Sleep deprivation takes toll on our health, our cognitive capacity and our productivity.
Based on process, this piece creates a space of solitude and rest. Dedicated particularly to Parsons Fine Arts students, this temporary sanctuary was a place of momentary snooze for students during finals, where stress levels are high, no rest is involved hence reducing the quality of work these students should be producing. (As well as signifying Parsons’ lack of facilities and communication within the community)
This piece was up for 3 days.
